I am the 20 something mother of three. My husband and I were married nearly 3 years before we had children and were quite satisfied in the baby department when our son was born. His name is T.Q., and he is amazing. Happiest, sweetest, piratest little boy in all the world. He walked at 8 months and has a passion for life that is barely contained in his little frame.
When Tae was 9 months old I found out that I was pregnant again. Seriously? We had been taking the necessary precautions to avoid such a scenario but it happens to the best of us. For 29 weeks we thought we were having one boy, however at that point a sonogram revealed that actually, we were having identical twin girls.
At 38 weeks (which was a mere 9 weeks after we found out) we were induced and after 5 short hours we had our girls. Nana and Lala. No C-section necessary. At that moment I was the mother of 3 children 16 months and younger. I googled one such statement…nothing came up. Nothing. Not a book, not a blog, not a word. So, I thought surely there are others in this situation, so, I shall blog. The title “You’ve got your Hands Full” is what anyone and everyone says to me when they see my overflowing stroller. This is my life, may you find it, at the very least, entertaining.
Char,
I love your blog. I am not too young, nor do I have too many children, and yet I feel completely overwhelmed with the task at hand. You are doing great. Love you,
Lauren
Aw, thanks Lauren, we hope to see you kids soon!
Hey, there is a light at the end of your tunnel! This is the voice of four-babies-in-five-years talking
I only WISH I had been 24 when I started… Anyway, when the twins are able to get cereal (or granola?) by themselves, one day you will wake up a little later than you had planned… pinch yourself and realize that the constant neediness phase was just that – a phase. Bless you
Love your blog!
Found your blog today through Googling “You’ve got your hands full” because I’m tired of hearing it! I have a 5, almost 4, 2 and one on the way. Such blessings, and people don’t think before they talk. I needed to hear your story tonight. Thanks.
We’re in a similar boat with three kiddos: We had boy/girl twins 3 weeks before our oldest daughter turned 2. (They’re now 4 and 2.) That was rough enough, and I say that you’re a rock star for having only 16 months between! We get the “You have your hands full” comments too, but the one that sticks in my mind is the man who held a door open for us (why don’t more just do that instead of thinking they have to say something?), and then walked away muttering, “Oh my God, I can’t even imagine…” It’s also stunning to count how many times people have asked if our boy and girl are identical.
I really enjoyed reading your blog! You have a great sense of humor and a refreshing introspection about this crazy life. Would you say it’s getting any easier as your kiddos get older? I’m really liking the walking and feeding themselves, but now we have some intense sibling rivalry!
